Back to School Shopping Tips

You guys, in a couple weeks I will have a Kindergartner and it is hitting me harder than I expected. Up until recently I’ve always been a working mom so my boys have been in all-day daycare since I returned from maternity leave. I honestly didn’t expect it to feel much differently when Deklan started Kindergarten, but it is bringing up all kinds of emotions. It’s the start of so many things that I’m not ready for yet. My hope is that we’ve given him the tools to navigate the difficult situations that will inevitably come his way, and that above all else, he will have the heart and courage to be kind to everyone.

Aside from emotionally preparing for this new chapter, there’s also back to school shopping that can feel a bit daunting. Here are some useful tips to help you plan and prepare:

  1. Start by going through their closet to see what they have that still fits and then make a list of what they actually need.
    1. If they have several summer tees and tanks already, look for 2-3 pieces that can be layered over the top like a plaid or denim button up shirt, a cardigan style sweater that is open in the front, and a zippered sweatshirt or bomber jacket.
  2. Versatility is key so buy pieces that are all in the same color palettes so that everything can be mixed and matched together without having to think about it. This will save you money and time in the morning because they know it can all be worn together.
  3. Download the StyleBook app to virtually store and organize their closet. Once you’ve uploaded pictures of their wardrobe you can mix and match outfits, add them to the calendar to plan ahead for the week or special events, create a packing list for vacation, and use it as a reference when shopping to see what they need and what they have at home to go with their new purchases.

As did my spirit animal, Launa! She was in the fight of her life last year after going into septic shock post a bone marrow transplant to treat MDS. I promised her she could be on TV with me once she got better so this was such a special moment for this proud Auntie!

Senior pictures should reflect your personality without going overboard on current trends since those are ever evolving!
I chose this romper for Jenna because the bold colors looked gorgeous against her fair skin and it’s on trend but a style that will be around for years.
